Christmas In July For Arsenal?

Hey Positives,

George is away and he tasked me to share with you the latest Positively-Uncensored podcast. Am very pleased we had our very own “Heady” as a special guest. He was his usual measured, optimistic self, as we discussed with ex-scout Ehab the explosive debut of Gabriel Jesus in helping the Gunners overcome a 2-goal deficit to defeat second-division Nurnberg FC in their preseason friendly. Seems Arteta has gotten his man, as the club makes big moves in the transfer market. Is this as good as it gets or is there more to come?

Feel free to chatter behind George’s back.

  1. with the signing of Zinchenko, Arsenal have now spent this summer £120M, following on from £150M last summer, and we mightn’t be finished with our spending this summer yet.
Although we are sure to see lots of players also leave us this summer, latest rumor is that Torreira is going to a club in Italy, his shirt number has already been given to Zinchenko.
Tavares is said to be about to sign for Atalanta on loan, Bellerin wants to join Betis, Mari is wanted by a few clubs in Spain and Italy, Pepe is said to be surplus to requirements too, if we can get any sort of decent fee for him he is off, AMN could go too, and both Leno and Runarsson not wanted by Arteta either.

He’s a good player the new LB. Multiple positions. Can pass the ball, Kolasinac he ain’t! not sure why he fell out of favour with Pep and I’m not sure if he’s got more potential then the impressive younger Brighton LB – It takes a special talent to impress in the PL in their first season.
Nice to see Bellerin and Niles in the shirt. Nice to see the strikers both new and familiar scoring.

Last year the smart management and butler-wallahs running the club started the season with players that they were trying to flog (not keep but flog!) for peanuts on the pitch. Genius at work? Or champions league costing errors? from the sycophantic butlers and landed idiots who are most definitely: not champions. Fingers crossed we see some evidence of progress.

  3. Definitely, after the mess of the last few years at least now we have two players that are indeed real players.
The idea of gambling on half the players you buys still not great but I suppose IF you can continue to do it each season you will get better.
The biggest gamble is getting better at a faster rate than your rivals and hoping the Kronkes don’t pull the plug at any time and go back to the substainable asset situation. A situation that Mikel could definitely not manage.

  4. the Arsenal starting 11 for tonights game v CFC is

    Ramsdale
    White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko
    Partey, Xhaka
    Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli
    Jesus

I would suggest this is baring injuries or quality new additions likely to be our starting 11 v Crystal Palace in the season opener

  5. no Vieira or Smith-Rowe in the subs, nor Tierney or Tomi

  6. This was an impressive win, I know you can’t hang much on friendlies but chelski would have still wanted to win and the scoreline, quick passing and running in the final third suggest we already have some cohesion. The clean sheet against a top side is also a big plus.
I have only seen the highlights but we seem to play well and you can already see Xhaka’s influence on this side.

  8. Well we had all wondered what the “process”was and how long it will take and maybe Edu has just let the cat out of the bag.
He’s said in an interview with sky that they are half way through the project, so assuming he meant from when he joined in 2019 then we have three years left.
Of course if he could of meant from when Mikel joined in which case it’s a little shorter.
He didn’t say where we were supposed to be at the end but he did say he wanted to be winning things this season so that I would assume means cups, which is highly reasonable.

  9. Was a great podcast
    Thanks to all involved.

Goals to enjoy against the biggest rivals of late, even if they are rebuilding their defence. The Gunners won’t pay them till early in the winter and I guess they should be more settled by that time.
The Gabriel goal from Xhaka’s pass is the kind of move & finish the fans like to see. And getting an older LB makes senses if Tierney could do with some rest at times. Arteta knows these players hopefully it works out ok.
Saliba. Any thoughts? For me it’s exciting to have Varane’s possible heir in the French squad as a starting RCB. I also hope those who shall not be named do not mess it up and it also works out for Saliba.

If I had a concern ATM it is that Saka could do with some extra rest after the England call up but that’s never going to happen!
Was the sub appearance for Niles an indication he might be in the squad? The coaches must know they have some extra games this season fingers crossed they’re not dumb on this one.

  10. Shame about losing our 100% winning record in preseason in our 2-1loss to Brentford, albeit a second string line up.
Good to see Eddie scoring again and Walters getting a run out but slightly worrying again that in a friendly we are still waiting to put subs on at 76, 85 and 90 minutes surely a waste of time.

    White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko

    Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli
    Jesus

subs: Turner, Runarsson, Cedric, Bellerin, Mari, Holding, Elneny, Maitland-Niles, Lokonga, Marquinhos, Pepe, Nelson, Nketiah,

No Balogun, with rumors he is off to France on loan, thinks it Reims that are said to be in for him

  15. So again we have a pretend Captain rather than the real one. I think he is a good vice captain as he does captain Norway but I prefer captains to be further back.
Interesting to see some of the players that seem to be going are on the bench for today’s game which is a bit strange and suggests we are not as far down the road of outgoings as we were led to believe.
Sevilla have lost two key defenders so we should be able to score goals today so it should be a entertaining game.

  16. Man, I don’t think Nuno Tavares was a key signing, Eduardo. He was like £7m, and backup for Tierney, and kind of showed up out of nowhere. We jumped in because Benfica were motivated sellers, as he had a falling out over there—said some stuff in public about his teammate Grimaldo apparently.

Sadly, we need more than a backup for that spot because of Tierney’s ongoing fitness problems.

I’m glad there’s no buy option, because I want to see what Nuno looks like after a season of regular football.

  17. Very sad to see that Terry Neill died. Rest in peace, and cheers for all the memories; good or bad, I loved them all. Amazing how many Arsenal greats jump ship from the Spuds and go onto better things.

To me Terry will always be very much part of THE ARSENAL!

  18. birdkamp he was said to be a key signing, yes to back up Tierney, as so many told us it was the loss of Tierney that cost us so much the season before, but one year on Tavares is gone, just like so many of Arteta’s signings he has not been up to it, and we’ve just gone out and signed someone to replace him, Mari and Runarsson both were the same, both now not wanted near the place, and lets not forget Willian too. It will be interesting to see if Saliba becomes first choice what happens with one of White, Tomiyasu and Cedric, which one will be discarded
We can but hope that Stan has deep pockets as it seems Arteta’s Elite Player ID is nothing more than Russian Roulette, buy buy and buy till you get enough of them right. Anyone can identify talent in a proven player such as Jesus, Zinchenko, Odegaard, the key to Elite Player ID is unearthing a gem, the nearest Arteta has come to that is Ramsdale, and he still has lots of prove, and indeed improve on

  19. Great result for the lads today in their final preseason game, 6-0 win over Seville, Jeusu x3, Saka x2 including a penalty, and Nketiah, a performance full of energy and no little skill, and some well taken goals. We can but hope we see much more of this freedom in attack this coming season

  22. Arteta on the strength of the squad…

“We’re still hoping to do something else if the market allows us to do that. You’ve seen some movement in the other direction in the last few days so we want to get the perfect balance and the plan we wanted right at the beginning. Whether we can accomplish that or not is another story, but I’m happy with where we are now.”
