Arsenal are 3rd best in PL! Don’t Laugh.

Morning all.

Today @shotta_gooner and I look briefly at the Brighton game before discussing where were stand, who and why we are standing 8th. What can be done, what might be done, who is best placed to do it? Despite the dire season Arteta looks safe, why?

Pedantic George.

  3. a day of departures at Arsenal

Zech Medley, Trae Coyle and Mark McGuinness all leave on what are reported to be free transfers but with buy back and sell on clauses in the deals.
Also leaving today was women’s star Danielle Van deDonk

  6. Serious question. Is it straight into knock out now or is there a second round of groups?

Saka looked good, better in the first half though? He always looks like he wants to take people on and change the movement of things, rather than the usual conservative passing and hoping all works on a long ball?

Fellt a bit sorry for Scotland, as Ian said if they had a striker…things just seemed to go against them.

  9. Ed, I se Daniel Oyegoke has left ARSENAL after turning down a contract.
It is extremely worrying that the lads who we consider promising no longer want to continue their progress a t the club.
This may be because of the policy in hiring amongst the first team and youngsters thinking they will no longer get a chance here.

  11. reports in Germany that Dino Mavropanos is staying with Stuttgart for another season on loan with a compulsory purchase price of £6M next summer.

  12. Saka looks a better player than Foden when playing for England. No great surpise as he is used to playing with average players whereas Foden is normally surrounded by the best.

Police cars revolving light Arsenal moving closer to agreement with Brighton for Ben White. #BHAFC want guaranteed ~£50m, #AFC offering ~£45m + £5m. Face-to-face talks have taken place & negotiations continue over add-ons, payment structure etc. No other bidders yet @TheAthleticUK

  17. Wayne Rooney makes more or less the same observation as Tim above on Saka & Foden for England. Great minds!

Never mind Wilshere’s excellent plunditry in this tournament, even Troy Deeny is desperate to see another attacker in the eleven for England. Which begs the question:

    Is Arteta the new Southgate*?

(*I am close to punting on England to win btw hehe, should’ve done it already…)

  18. < like Rooney Wilshere & yikes yes Deeny too I suspect England would have a better or at least more entertaining style with another attacker or just another all round CM in there (against all but France) instead of Rice (which is what France do – Deschamps simply lets Kante and Pogba control the the play from the c.circle…)

  19. Foden is special. But yeah, he needs players at his level around him, Saka plays more directly, so he doesn’t need them so much to shine.

  24. A veteran Vermaelen starting for the first time at a high level in ages a huge game for Belgium against Portugal in 2021 and no goals conceded in the first half, will his legs survive a second? Playing with white hair a wispy Japanese goatee and no ankles! Blimey.
Belgium’s lack of speed at the back makes for a cagey contest, but it is interesting.

Not surviving given the record we can see now from the blaggers but the former club captain was a better player imo then many of them remember before his twin ankle troubles almost ended his career.

    Like

  25. Before the ankle strife Verdmaelen was almost as popular with the fans as Cazorla (almost!). Club captain after one season in the PL! The fans consensus and that of the blaggers does not align as often as the PR states.

For lots of reasons it would be good to see full stadiums next season if not at the start by next year at least.
