Pep Says “Arteta Knows Everything ” I say “Really Pep?”

Good morning all.

Today @shotta_gooner and I look back at the limp surrender to City and try to work out why a squad of this quality is wallowing in mid table and scoring goals at a miserable rate. To be honest I surprised myself with my conviction that Arteta is way out of his depth as a manager. I try to understand where people are seeing progress but I fail miserably and conclude that the future is bleak unless surgery is done.

If you think I’m wrong, please use the comments section to educate me, I would love to be shown as wrong.

Pedantic George.

  1. Good effort last night to come back from the brink. Onwards and upwards, into the last 8 with a reasonable chance of progression to the Semis.

  2. The joy of the late comeback will help the squad move on from the City defeat.

There has been an improvement in goals scored since Arteta started to play a ten again in the eleven on Boxing Day for “not football related reasons” hehe.

Ceballos with an unfortunate rival for the Mustafi Moment there luckily for him it was against a poor Benfica team & not The Manchester Oilers in a Wembley final.

Will Arteta revert back to his best attacking line from this season, Pepe left & Saka right of ESR (or MO) behind a striker, Aubameyang or Lacazette? That would also allow for some rotation in the front line in the weeks ahead.

  3. I was able to watch most of the second half, but missed our disallowed goal and the one we gifted to them. I’ve since see both moments on the AFC website. For the life of me it looked as if the disallowed goal was onside, but that the winning one was offside. Can anyone throw any light on those moments for me?
Comeback wins are always good for morale, and as Fins says, let’s hope it gives them all a lift.

  4. Fins has someone taken over your phone or laptop I had to read your post twice. I normally agree with 99% of what you say but Pepe in Mikel’s best line up that has never happened and unless something drastic changes in his form will never.
Ceballos was not unfortunate he makes mistakes every game, he is very talented and totally lose players one minute but then always loses the ball the next. Mustafi might have made big mistakes but Ceballos makes loads more.

  5. foreverheady you made the same mistake i made last night, we are only now into the last 16 not the last 8, we need to win four rounds more of the EL to win it

Tottenham’s Europa League tie will be reversed, they cannot play at home on the same day as Arsenal, per UEFA rules (not day switch).

The national Cup winners (Arsenal) hold the fixture rights.

    March 11
    Spurs v Dinamo Zagreb

    March 18
    Arsenal v Olympiakos

  8. I don’t know if anyone else on this site is affected by the decision not to offer a full refund or carry over for those with red membership. Instead stating that only part of the payment will be credited as members have still been able to enjoy a regular newsletter and 10% discount in the Arsenal shop, to name but a few dubious so called benefits.
I read this email and thought this just epitomises the whole set up at Arsenal now. There was a time when they could be relied upon to do the right thing but every decision now reflects the low moral standing of this once great club.
I know times are difficult but surely supporters deserve some goodwill. I mean it isn’t as if we are being served up a thing of beauty every week.
    Rant over.

  11. Interesting rugby today. A controversial decision,or two in the England Wales game.
On one, The ref basically told the England captain to go and have a word with his team, which he duly did, while allowing Wales to simultaneously take a try scoring quick set piece before England were ready.
The ref just dismissed England’s protests, Quickly stopped the England captain speaking to him and carried on with the game, refusing to acknowledge any mistake.
I’m half Welsh btw, and England lost the game by themselves even with a dubious ref, just to rule out any sour grapes, but just making the point not only football has dodgy refs, and hearing their conversations didn’t help the situation today, doubt if Mike Dean and co would be any different with a if his words on the pitch were broadcast

  14. True Eduardo, think they seem to get a lot more right in rugby in general, in football, well, and the Brighton game as Forverheady mentions. But if I were a complete neutral in that game, would cite that as the sort of refereeing only really seen in sport with the likes of Utd or a Spanish giant .
And Foreverheady, Hopefully in a better place, you can have as much whisky as you want!
Despite two tries being highly dubious, record breaking points haul for Wales against England. Trouble is, I’m roughly half English as well. Really wanted a Wales England Rugby WC final, always had the feeling Wales would have won that with England peaking in earlier rounds

  15. Shame youth teams struggling at moment. Gives a nice little boost when doing well and gets me dreaming about who could have a chance with 1st team.

Strange times at moment on that front as big doubts about future of all of Ainsley, Joe, Eddie and Reiss. Even Hector if press reports right. What with that, Balogun situation and perhaps biggest hope Azeez currently injured there’s not a lot of obvious positives on youth/homegrown front…apart from that man Saka of course, plus Emile’s emergence this year.

  16. Fingers crossed Ainsley and Joe keep playing until seasons end. Excellent experience for them both. Joe obviously not had anything like a run of four straight full games in prem (don’t think so anyway), and nor has Ainsley in midfield.

Mostly seems pretty positive from what I’ve seen, although today thought Willock made mistake for goal in running back with man then letting him go in box. Ainsley also had poor one defensively with Fernandes goal the other week.

Both getting proper workouts with a lot of running and defending though, and showing some intriguing qualities. Ainsley in centre mid got me thinking…is there a faster cm in league and, historically, who are lightning quick centre mids? Can think of some with great engines, good frames, and then Yaya, who seemed like runaway truck at times, but struggling for those with great sprint speed.

  17. A big test for Arteta today. As Mancity tie was a one sided affair even before a ball was kicked. This will be a make or break match. Lets see what Arteta has to offer. Will he folliw in Arsene Wengers footsteps and tries play positive attacking football or will adapt his own defence first Mourinho approcah?

Though people who think that they have got their Arsenal back have lost the case as we lost that Arsenal since Wenger left.
The golden days are gone and will never return.
