Atleast they should apologise to Wenger for disrespecting him for all those years when he kept Arsenal among the leading clubs of Europe for 2 decades.

Were what Wenger left behind “rubbish” as you say, or was it the Emery was such a bad coach that not only could he do nothing with them, but damaged them badly instead?
I believe latter to be the case.
It is going to take more than a few games to rid them of the awful tactics that he drummed into them.
Confidence is very fragile and it will take a while for them to recover from the damage caused.
IN the meantime, I am amused by the fuss made about the Liverpool 2nd team managing to scrape past Shrewsbury winning by an own goal.
Wenger did it year in and year out against better teams, and did anyone react like this?

Probably a pen, by the weird standards of modern football, where it normally just has to look right, by those standards, and involve a touch somewhere. but yeah there was the falling before contact and the leg splayed out very wide to try get some contact.
Definitely at a threshold you can easily imagine us not getting, or getting and then having it overturned. Player booked. Commentators denouncing him. Etc.
He’s an excellent player but a right little cheat. Threw in a bit of imaginary card waving and one of those miraculous recoveries- tremendous anguish one moment, absolutely fine seconds later- of his last night as well

Last night was going so damn well before that comeback. Their general play was shocking, other than the livewire front two who can create a lot of danger themselves if have any space to work with.
Saints had been impressive. Lot of that seemed to be down to their use of one touch passes in right areas and good judgment of when to do that or when to take extra touches. Made Spurs look very poor by comparison. Oh, I was enjoying it and looking forward to the stick they’d get.
Subs changed game unfortunately and the new lad for them Gedson looked pretty good.

For what it’s worth, John Cross reporting the club are considering bringing Wenger back, whether that is for a visit/ appearance on the pitch, or some sort of job upstairs seems unclear, to me at least

Sam Greenwood and Miguel Azeez made significant contributions as Arsenal U18s made it through to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup tonight with a 4-3 victory at home to Brighton & Hove Albion in an enthralling contest.
Arsenal were eliminated by West Bromwich Albion at this stage of the competition last season and were determined to avoid a repeat occurrence.
Coach Ken Gillard had an abundance of midfield and attacking options to choose from and elected to pair the fit again Azeez with Charlie Patino in midfield behind an attacking quartet of Ryan Alebiosu, Ben Cottrell, Matthew Dennis and Greenwood.
Alfie Matthews was on the bench where he was joined by Kido Taylor-Hart, with the talented winger included in a matchday squad for the first time since October after recovering from injury. Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, however, was sidelined along with goalkeeper Tom Smith.

It appeared apparent from the outset that this would be an all-action encounter, with Brighton signalling their attacking intent as an effort sailed over the crossbar.
Patino, who was getting to grips with his defensive responsibilities in midfield, was then booked.
Alebiosu then had Arsenal’s first effort of the game after being teed up by Azeez, but the winger’s shot was saved.
Dennis, the hero in the last round, shot over but then Arsenal took the lead, with Greenwood finishing well after he and Alebiosu were previously denied in quick succession.
Greenwood nearly doubled his tally almost immediately but on this occasion the forward’s attempt went just wide.
Brighton quickly demonstrated, though, that they still posed a major threat, with Arsenal goalkeeper Hubert Graczyk having to make an impressive save.
The visitors were then awarded a penalty following a foul by Alex Kirk, which came shortly after his central-defensive partner Mazeed Ogungbo had made a misjudgement when attempting to head the ball.
Brighton scored from the spot but they were level for just a matter of moments, as, incredibly, Arsenal were given a penalty themselves shortly afterwards as the lively Cottrell was fouled.
Greenwood stepped up and confidently dispatched the spot-kick into the back of the net to restore Arsenal’s lead.
Graczyk then made a save from close range as Arsenal just about managed to go into the break in the ascendancy.
Greenwood was a frequent threat for Arsenal and had another opportunity in the early stages of the second period but couldn’t find the net.
Brighton took advantage of that miss as they levelled again, Lorent Tolaj finishing precisely past Graczyk.
Graczyk made an error which Brighton couldn’t capitalise upon and then Greenwood was thwarted again.
Eventually Arsenal got their third goal, and it was a special moment for Azeez, who marked his first start since returning from injury with an outstanding volley inside the area after the ball fell to him following a corner.
Cottrell almost got a goal to cap off a fine individual display and then his lofted effort caused all sorts of problems for Brighton goalkeeper Roco Rees, who ended up pushing the ball into his own net.
Arsenal sent on Matthews in place of Dennis and then Luke Plange for Alebiosu, but Brighton pulled a goal back with Tolaj scoring again.
Catalin Cirjan came on for Patino, and Brighton threatened to take the game to extra-time, but Arsenal stood firm, with Graczyk making some fine stops.
After this titanic tussle, Arsenal will face Blackburn Rovers or Preston North End away in the quarter-finals and there is a very real possibility that, for all their struggles in the league, Gillard’s side could at least get to the final of this prestigious competition this season.

Graczyk – May have conceded three but made some fine stops
Oyegoke – Pushed forwards well, although he was caught out of position at times
Kirk – Made some excellent interventions, especially late on
Ogungbo – Not at his best as he made several errors
Lopez – Like Oyegoke, he was too high up at times, but also made some important interventions
Patino – Needed the help of a defensive midfielder but showed glimpses of his class
Azeez – Started slowly but grew into the game and scored a fine goal
Alebiosu – Worked hard but his end product was limited
Cottrell – Very efficient in possession and played some slick passes
Dennis – Couldn’t repeat his heroics of the previous round
Greenwood – Arsenal’s best performer on the night, he linked play well and posed a constant threat.

off topic, I got a new dog today, picked her up from a Rescue Center, a 3 year old Black Labrador/Collie cross.

she has settled surprisingly well so far.

Why was she at the rescue center?

she had ten pups, the owner gave 8 of them to a friend, who in turn put seven of them into the pound, the owner kept two, then 3 weeks after giving the pups away the owner handed her into the pound too. The rescue centers take any animals that the pound don’t re-home in a week or so. Seemingly the original owner should not be allowed to keep any dogs, but for some reason here in Ireland it is very hard to get a court to pass such a judgement.
She is neutered now, is mostly house trained (just likes to put her paws up on the table and counter tops), and is lead trained too. She is a little wary of men, and certainly is more at ease with women.
I had her out for two walks today and she was nervous when heading away from the house, she kept circling me and looking for reassurance, but as soon as we turned for home she was very relaxed and led the way home.
I’m pleasantly surprised at how well she has settled for her first day. I only met her for the first time, when I went to pick her up this morning, as the Rescue Center is around 90KM from my home. I had applied for her after seeing her online and discussed everything with the Rescue people when they done the homecheck.

Just watched Leverkusen Vs Dortmund. What a fantastic match. Quality on the ball, speed of passing, movement, clean tackling. Truly the way football should be.

Looks lovely Ed. Nice she has found a good home, especially if may not have had one previously.
Had a lab collie mix from a farm. Folks ignored advice not to go for most boisterous one and picked him as he ran over and jumped around. Great choice. Really was a wonderful dog with great temperament.
Liked a walk and, boy, did he like his grub. And sticks, even ridiculously oversized ones (once had to apply headlock and pull a big splinter few inches long that was sticking straight out of his gum. Went back to the stick right after!)

A day after his arrival in the Republic of Ireland, Nigerian-born defender Joseph Olowu made his unofficial debut as Cork City registered a 2-0 win against Longford Town in a pre-season friendly at Bishopstown Training Ground on Saturday afternoon.
The Arsenal starlet gave a good account of himself in the friendly, helping goalkeeper Liam Bossin to keep a clean sheet.
Listed as a trialist, allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm with certainty that the Nigerian youngster was the only Cork City starter not identified on the team sheet vs Longford Town.
It is understood that Cork City have not yet made an official announcement on his signing due to an administrative issue.
Ahead of his unveiling, the 20-year-old center back has already signed a loan contract, posed for official photographs for his new club and allocated a provisional squad number of 23.
Joseph Olowu was spotted by an Arsenal scout whilst undergoing trial with Charlton Athletic at the age of thirteen.
