@LaboGoon swoops in like a hungry hawk in search of prey
Good day Positivistas.
It’s finally back to Premier League action for Arsenal after an international break that seems to be a bit longer than the last with us having to wait ’til Monday night under the lights of the Emirates for our game against Leicester.
Since defeat in the opening two fixtures the Gunners are gelling well under Unai Emery, with a great positive aura in and around the club nowadays.
Prior to the inter-break we have been absolutely sensational and ruthlessly dispatched of Fulham in our last game with a performance reminiscent of the days of yore, and it is that form we will be hoping to carry into this game with the Foxes in search of our 10th win in-a-row in all competitions.
Claude Puel’s man have been a real hodgepodge this season; 4 wins and 4 defeats from their 8 PL games, in which they scored 14 and conceded 12 goals. They’ve beat the teams you would’ve expected them to and lose against those that force them on the back foot – something we should have good memories of having lost just once to them in the previous three seasons. That loss came last season at the King Power when we weren’t happy travellers at all.
We shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking this should be a comfortable evening though. In our enthusiasm to push players forward we do leave gaping holes at the back and Leicester does possess an attacking threat that have it in them to exploit those, which is something we know of all too well.
When these teams met last season the Foxes scored three goals in both home and away fixtures; first when we beat them 4-3 defeat at the Emirates and then a 3-1 defeat to them in the return fixture. If anything, there is potential for this to be a very entertaining game from end to end with goals to show for it. So our boys will need to have a good all-round game, especially in the first 45, if we want to keep all the points at the Emirates.
With our main rivals winning their games, bar Chelsea and ManUtd sharing the spoils, there will be pressure on us to get this one over the line. I think Unai and his men will be mentally prepared for the task at hand.

FT: Arsenal 3-1 Leicester City
Bellerin own goal gave LCFC the lead as AFC struggled for half an hour, but then we went up in tempo and dominated for an hour, Ozil with our first, Aubameyang with 2, one of which was only 2 minutes after coming on, Ozil man of the match with a magic performance,
Arsenal now up to 4th, only 2 goals off 3rd, and only 2pts off top.
The Ozil goal was outstanding, the 3rd goal was a goal of the season contender.

Özil’s goal really jump-started us. Our speed going forward from then on was magnificent. Unlike that referee, who was the absolute pits.

Not for the first time, started poorly, even rode their luck a couple of times, but heads didn’t drop, and the team became, well, majestic.
What wonderful goals, supreme performances, Ozil, Iwobi, bellerin , Leno with a vital save,to name but a few. Xhaka at the back even!
Loved the way they did their utmost to get Lacca in on the goals.

shard he said Holding handball was clearest penalty you will ever see, that AFC rode their luck, Officials done LCFC no favors, and that he would not give credit to Ozil as it was down to LCFC not doing their jobs well enough. He is is fathers son, a real cunty cunt cunt

apart from micki tonight, everyone played superbly well. iwobi will definately become a world class player. he just needs to add goals to his game.
leno kept us in the game early on but he had nothing to do in the second half to be honest. xhaka seems at home at left back, he is the next flamini.

Everyone put in work…everyone.
No Layksite, Mkhi set the tone in the 2nd half. In the 1st half he was under-used & barely passed to. Most of our play was left-side. Also don’t forget that like Mesut & Rambo, HM7 is a #10 masquerading as a winger. He’s been unlucky but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind he will come good…and I mean really good.

Hang on, has no one commented since 9.30!! What’s going on? All in a happy stupor or a few of the big guns at the match tonight?
3 beautiful goals, 3 points, very happy. Cant remember how many of the Fulham five were good goals but remember being impressed by nearly all or all of them. 8 quality goals in a row? Plenty, anyway.
Few more games like that and my lily-livered lack of faith when the going is rough will be truly inexcusable.

Shard. Stats might make a mug of me, as they often do, but that’s something I feel like I’m seeing with Pool and the giant Van Dijk- that he gobbles up most crosses into their box.
Still got my hankering for an aerial monster cb, and none of them tend to be under 6 3, but, like I say, stats often don’t back me that much on that one

Ima keep talking and there’s nothing you can do about it (unless you put me in the trash folder). Can’t believe the happiness a good win can deliver.
Positives galore. Suitably suspicious of how much more love I feel for the players when 3-1 up and flying as opposed to 1- down and… not flying, but..human nature/weakness, think there was some justification for my not enjoying the early running, and maybe I need the good stuff more than is ideal. Also beer.
Positives: Xhaka: I love the guy. Absolute opposite of the ‘fake player’ atom-brained and- penised P Neville claimed he was, more talent and character than crap-haired, faced, and- brained, tiny-cocked Phil could dream of possessing.
Many more but random shouts to Ozil, of course, Laca, for still playing well and showing why he merited the nod over Auba on a night when it wouldn’t go in for him. Guendouzi, for showing why Elneny, good player himself, is bang out of luck, and Emery is right to have the managerial horn for him. Iwobi, for getting me on the verge of admitting he is seriously better than I always thought and on the cusp of believing he can produce consistency, kick on and become a big asset for us. Leno for making it hard to drop him despite Petr starting the year well. Ballerina, Torreira, all those beautiful bastards.

We have let in a few, yet in the league have scored several more goals than some very media annointed teams with world class front lines and strikers I can think of
Work in progress, maybe, but this team in full flow will be very scary to any opponent that is not out of sight by half time

Mesut Ozil delivered a memorable performance as we beat Leicester City on Monday night – and Hector Bellerin says it was the display of “a born champion”.
The Spanish right-back was in fine form himself, but afterwards discussed the World Cup winner’s performance with the media.

It’s difficult to pick up the run again once you’re on the international break because it feels like things break up a little bit so it was a big challenge for us to keep the run going. We were at home and every time we have the passion of ours fans with us it’s always that little bit easier. It was a tough first half because we knew they’re a team that plays good football and they have a lot of quality up front, but when we started playing in the second half and the passes were flowing and we could put a few attacks together the goals just kept coming.

Mesut is a player that always keeps giving his best and is always surprising everyone and he’s a player that we’re very grateful and very lucky to have. When the team play well with good football and he can find space he’s always a killer with his passes and finishes, so for us to have a player like him in the team is very important.

It is like that! It’s like that in training and it’s like that game by game. It’s always a blessing to have players like that but the work comes from the whole team and it comes from the back from the goalkeeper to the striker. We’re all one and when you have players with such quality it’s always that little bit easier.

Mesut is a player that has been through a lot in his career through loads of ups and downs, but most of all he’s a born champion and he’s a player who has so many records in the world of football, so he’s a player that is an example for everyone. Everyone wants to have the success that he’s had on and off the pitch, so for us to have someone like him as a captain is really important.
on his assessment of his performance…
These things can happen in football [the own goal]. You can’t always win and it’s something that we were a bit unlucky with as well, but it’s all about lifting your head up. It’s not about how many times you fall it’s about getting up after and with the help of my teammates we could get the game going. We knew that chances were going to come so it’s important that we scored them.
on how much more there is to give…
For us it’s always important to improve and keep things realistic. It’s a new season with a new manager and of course we’re almost in November already, so things are getting a bit easier in terms of tactically and we know the way that the coach wants to play. As you can see on the pitch we’re way more organised and the football flows a bit more, but as I’ve said, it’s only the start and there’s a lot of work we still need to do. Hopefully the results are going to keep coming.
on whether he’s ready to go again ahead of a busy week…
Of course, we’re always ready and we’re a team of players who are used to this kind of week so we will do the best we can and we will give 100% in the next game

We were magnificent in the second half and there was a buzz about both team and crowd that was super exciting. But I think we put in the hard yards in the first half which softened them up. I felt we should definitely have had a penalty after about 20 mins and an awful lot else seemed to go against us so I was surprised to hear that Holding should have gone.
And what surprised me was how full the ground was. I’d expected many to take the easy option of watching from home but far from it – it was heaving and noisy.

Never liked Puel. Seems as though tonight he has done the sort of shit Wenger was accused of often in defeat but never really did- putting all emphasis, unjustifiably, on one big decision from ref over the rest of the game.
Didn’t watch, nor listen for most part, but bet Sky made a massive deal of the strong Holding pen claim as well.
It was a strong claim, despite it surely not being Holding’s intention to divert ball with hand, but we’ve had dozens of similar or stronger claims ignored over the years.
Fact is, Claude, defend well but have bit of quality and commitment to attacking our spaces worked well for first thirty or so, earned a lead, and then we stepped up, played all the football and richly deserved the win.
Don’t cry for Var, stupid weiners, the truth is we’d… do better with it (if done reasonably well)

Rich, you might be correct about the height issue, stats notwithstanding. I don’t know who can be a transfer target for us in that regard. VVD cost Liverpool 75m or so right? I don’t think we’ll spend 80 mil on a CB anytime in the near future. And that’s what someone like a Maguire or Koulibaly would cost. I think we’re going to rely on building up the young players we have. Holding, Chambers, Mavro and Bielik.

This was replayed and broken down in detail here on NBCSN and that was the conclusion. Ndidi’s head pushed Holding’s arm into the ball’s path.
