Liverpool – A Six-Pointer?

allsport-andrei-arshavin-shows-four-liverpool_2197835.jpg

Sadly for 90 minutes we will be distracted from our jobs of management, transfers and coaching today, and we will have to watch a game of football. This game couldn’t come at a worse time for those of us that are busy running the club in our own image. But still, we should at least consider what annoyingly lies ahead up at Anfield.

Let’s start with the good news, Sanchez and Koscielny are available to start. Of course the bad news is it’s their first outing and they will be useless, rusty.

I’m going to stick my neck out and say Xhaka and Ramsey will play in midfield with Sanchez, Ozil and Lacazette in front of them. Apart from that, I must admit, I am clueless as to who else will play and where.

It seems Liverpool are in fine form, following their comprehensive win in the Champions League. It’s 5 years since we went there and Abou, sorry, we won, so it’s a big ask. It would be nice if Lacazette or Sanchez could do an Arshavin and score with their every touch, as I feel someone will have to perform at an exceptional level for us to come away with the points. We do though have a number of individuals capable of such heroics.

With last year’s FA Cup now 3 competitive games away and no more than a distant memory,  the robbery at Stoke confirming how useless we are and the Transfer Cup seemingly out of our reach now, we have lurched into our first crisis of the season. Our entire season depends on this game.

What a short season that was!

So a big performance is needed.

  2. This is the most shocking performance I have witnessed in many a year. And it can be solved with a simple tactical change to shore up of the midfield.

    We have no MIDFIELD.

The saving grace is that I know this is not the real Arsenal. But when will the real Arsenal turn up?

A major improvement or change needed second half, but just looks as if something not right. As bad s I have seen for a while.
    That said, come on Arsenal!

  7. on each of the 3 goals Arsenal gave away possession and liverpool broke and scored, it really does feed into the idea that we are very badly set up tactically

  16. FT: Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal

a shockingly bad performance from Arsenal, but can we call it surprising seeing as we have seen this sort of surrender way too often from this team over the last few years.

went down with a whimper, or maybe even without a whimper.

all four goals started with us in possession, 3 of them while we were in attack, 1 from our corner. there has to be something wrong with our setup or tactics for this to happen.
for me a lot of the players attitude stunk the place out, we’d lose the ball and barely a jog put in to get back and help defend.
passing and interplay poor, and the few chances we did create we were not clinical at all.

3 games in and we are 16th in the table, 3pts off bottom. 6pts off top.

Wenger says we have too big a squad and need to get rid of some players. Which is true, but he needs to be asked if he feels we have enough quality in the team/squad. Cos it looks like we clearly haven’t

  17. at least Burnley equalised… what can an arsenal fan do on a day like this…. take the small joys…. Why is Mustafi on the bench? just asking, not making excuses really

  18. even spurs letting in a late leveler at home to Burnley barely registers after that woeful performance.

what is wrong with our energy levels, are our players not fit, or is it merely that our players have a poor attitude and could not be arsed to put in the required effort.

  22. well at least we are fully on ground 0.. can only get better from here

Eg. can’t see any reason why Alexis started when this was his 1st game back… Lacazette or Giroud should have started… as the team is building up!

  23. Awful. Have praised him enough, but cannot help but feel the manager needs to step up a bit, a team cannot be allowed to defend like that on so many occasions.
Wenger should either sort the defending, or delegate to someone who will, or there will be a cost this season.
    An urgent improvement needed

  26. mandy a few weeks ago Wenger gave an interview where he said that part of Jen Lehmann’s job is to work with the “defensive coaches” and on that side of the team. This suggest Wenger already lets others do that end of the game, the question is, does our attacking tactics stop the defensive side being able to do their job well enough

  27. Haven’t seen the team this short of confidence in years, not even when Bayern trashed at. But I shall remain on the right side of the Arsenal support. What this team is in need of is our love and support.

Time away with their family and friends on international could just be the juice they need to get this season back on track in a fortnight’s time.

I shall chalk this down as a Sunday I hope to never experience again.

  28. 4:0! That was brutal. Poor in the 1st half, barely better in the 2nd. Our midfield was simply over-ran in the 1st half and it was barely better in the 2nd. So few chances created, no shots on target. Too many mistakes both in midfield and defence. Too many misplaced passes, errant combinations, so anti-Arsenal. We have got to get that midfield sorted asap. But since a certain player, whose name will not be called, went down injured last October, it has been a nightmare. Obviously that 3-4-2-1 was only covering the cracks. Unlike my blogging colleagues I don’t have the answers.

Will take a break from twitter until the howling subsides.

  29. ts, the rumor is that he and his family did not settle in england and he wants to go back to Italy, his wife had a baby a few weeks ago, maybe that has sped up any desire to move. Of course it could all be bull and he aint going anywhere, but when asked the other day about it, Wenger did not dampen the rumors, even suggested it could happen.

  30. Well I was hoping there wouldn’t be excessive dooming and glooming on PA. But that was being too optimistic. Oh well.

  31. Not dooming at all from my end. I surely know we are better than this, just wondering aloud is all… naturally, if Sanchez had scored hat trick I would not be wondering. LOL

these type of games happen and am glad we have one under our belt and can only get better… plenty of games left to recover… doesn’t stop one from wondering though…

  32. shotta when the team put in as bad a performance as that its very difficult to not feel the doom and gloom, its not as if its a one off, we have been seeing performances like that four or five or more, times a season for a few years now. Performances that look like the players are just not up for it and couldn’t care less.

All teams lose the ball. We’re losing it in harmless areas and conceding goals that any half decent team should prevent.

  36. Given the fact that Aaron Ramsey normally tries his socks off and was virtually anonymous in the first half before getting substituted I can only guess he was suffering from something. No doubt all will be revealed.

  37. Defence attack, a very good question Eduardo.but letting in four against a top four rival at the beginning of the season, twice in a row, when we all know exactly what Liverpool are going to do, is not great.
We seem to struggle against teams that play like that.
Also, can only agree on the player we lost last oct, such a player makes it more difficult for opponents. I was hoping that would be fixed in the transfer window, for all I know it might yet, but suspect such players are very hard to find
Think Mr Wenger needs to work harder on starts to seasons, if I may say so sitting in my comfortable armchair.
