Arsenal: Are you ready Positives ?

With our season about to start later this week I’m sure that many remember moaning and groaning about some of our starts to previous seasons. Perhaps it would be fun to contemplate our navels for a moment and reflect that back before the war, Manchester City won the championship and were relegated the following season!

I mean how about this as a start to the season from the champions?

P10 W1 D2 L7 including no less than a 7-1 whipping at Sunderland.

Whoops! You thought I was referring to Man City? Ah sorry, slip of the two fingers. It was us actually in 1953/4.

Oh as a new boy at a school with distinct scum leanings, it was painful. In those days, our first win of the season, in about our 8th game, Chelsea away 2-0, meant so little! I mean a blind man and his dog expected to beat Chelsea.

Bad starts are not uncommon …we’ve had at least 6 with no more than 2 wins out of the first 10 games…. but which is the only club to have gone nearly 100 successive years in the top flight? Everton believe it or not come closest to the Gooners….63 odd years and after them, our nearest rivals will be……??

That’s your Quiz question.

And then there’s just straight old losing and /or not scoring. How about 7 straight losses in 1976/7? Even in our real hey days, in 1998/9, we had a wonderful early season spell with 3 goals in 5 games and that was the year after the double.   Better still, 1 goal in about 8 successive games (It really is too painful to track that season back so forgive me) in one glorious Jan/Feb spell when we had been 1st or 2nd for most of the season and banging it in like sailors on shore leave.

So goal starvation is also not something that is uncommon to the faithful.

  5. it looks like the arsenal players have given the ball away several times due to the similar colored kits, they see the red and white out of the corner of their eye and pass it only to see its the WSW white and red and not the AFC red and white

  11. HT: WSW 0-3 Arsenal
Giroud, Ramsey, Elneny with the goals.

game played with more of an edge to it that the first game, and for me Arsenal playing with a little less pace too, but still some wengerball in there.
It looks like some of the players blowing a bit, but that is not a surprise when you consider the hard training that would have been done in last few days.
The white and red and red and white kit clash has not helped our one touch passing.
Elneny began to look like David Luiz as the game went on.
AMN been well involved but being right footed playing LWB has meant a few good attacking positions were not made the most of, but the lad is up for it.
Iwobi been well in the game too.
    Monreal with two assists.
Lacazette does a lot of one twos with our midfielders, and has shown a burst of pace too.
Giroud finish outstanding, and Ramsey goal a real class one.

a competitive workout, two top goals and a deflected one gave us a 3-0 lead, a comical freekick given away for their goal, martinez had picked up a back pass six yards out.

all the subs being brought on killed the game for a ten or fifteen minute spell, then in final five or ten minutes Arsenal stepped it up again and came very close to scoring a couple, ozil and nketiah hitting the same post, and their keeper made a couple of good saves from theo

2 games in and we have not yet fielded our strongest possible 11 together, we may see it v BM in midweek or next Saturday v Chelsea.

Kolasinac has played in the back 3 so far, but for the last 15 of today’s game he really pushed up and we got a glimpse of what we might get from him as a lwb. Some really good driving runs, he forced the game.

    by jeorge bird

Arsenal midfielder Josh Dasilva came on as a second-half substitute as England U19s beat Portugal 2-1 today to win the European Championship for their age group.

Easah Suliman put England in front before an own goal from Dujon Sterling saw Portugal equalise.

It was England who prevailed, however, with Lukas Nmecha scoring the winner and the Three Lions held on to win despite Tayo Edun being sent off in the closing stages.

Dasilva is now set to be given time off before returning to Arsenal next month.
