Thank You, Red Action

We’ve seen many amongst the great and the good, speak upon behalf of most Arsenal fans.

The usual candidates.

For years.

However it was only in the last twenty four-odd months or so that more support was given by these uber-supporters via their podcasts etc, towards the very small group of non-self promoting people behind Red Action group and their efforts to improve the match day atmosphere at the Emirates stadium.

I think the clue there is in the lack of any desire on the part of Red Action to promote themselves in place of the club that they support. When it’s up to the government to reintroduce safe-standing (please refer to Celtic FC) then they are doing the best that they can do.

To my eye, Red Action had received very little support from all these groups over the years. Not the Arsenal’s Supporters Liberation Front nor the People’s (In) Front of The Arsenal, none of them.

I just wanted to say “thank you” to Red Action for all their efforts over the years.

Perhaps one day soon they’ll also muster up the footballs required to put up a banner in support of the greatest manager in the modern (post-war) history of the club.

We can but hope.

Here is the text from their banner at the Bayern Munich home game (and what a game that was!):

“Raise the flag for The Arsenal.  Tonight we all need to be behind the players. As the team enter the field to the sound of the Champions League theme please hold this bag (flag).  Together we will be showing everyone inside the ground and the millions watching on TV around the world just how proud we are of our great Club.  Players & supporters together. We are The Arsenal.  Thank you for your continued support”

It might not have made any difference but I note that against Munchen and Abu Dhabi the team played really well when Red Action tried their best to create a special atmostphere.

Thank you Red Action.

Come on the Arsenal & Happy New Year!

  1. but what are Red Action doing to stop non North London, Arsenal fans from attending games at the Emirates, isn’t it these “tourists” that are the problem and the reason why Wenger has been getting away with it for years, and is still here. Its all well and good Red Action supporting the club, the team, but its time the campaigned to exclude non Islington residents from the ground, women could then be their next target and then those non white, non christian types, that are all so found of our French fool of a manager.

  2. Isaac Hayden’s loan deal at Hull which was meant to run for the season is being cut short, he returns to AFC after Hull’s game this weekend. Probably down to the fact he is not getting enough game time for Arsenal’s liking, and that he will be fixed up with a club who will provide him with more game time in the second half of the season. But i bet it will be used by the whingers as a stick to beat AFC with, – the poor state of our youth, can’t even get in Hull team –

  3. Thanks for this Fins – those of us unable to attend the matches in person may be ignorant of the good work supporters groups like Red Action put into the whole thing so I appreciate you bringing it to my attention.

  7. If Fins says so then it is good enough for me. Always in every organization I am familiar, it is not the flashy self-promoters, but the 20% who quietly and diligently do 80% of the hard slogging work. Yet they are always ignored in favor the empty blow hards.

Nice way to close out the old year. Happy New Year to all the Positivistas. Three years on and still going strong!

  9. Red Action are definitely some of the good guys and their efforts should always be supported and commended. Along with A.I.S.A they work with the club to improve the supporters experience in following the club, in whatever capacity. AST could learn a lesson instead of just whinging all the time.

  10. Good job giving a shout out to a supporters group worthy of the name. I was at both those matches and I must say that their efforts supported by the majority of the crowd looked impressive and created a great atmosphere. Let’s hope for more support and less moaning in 2016 and a Happy New Year to you all. See you on the other side!

  15. Well said Fins – I have always thought Red Action have been the unsung heroes around the place.

I have no idea how many are in the group but they are basically good news for the club and the fans. I think the club are to be congratulated in financially backing the ideas of RA and certainly the likes of Leicester City FC have also found that going the extra mile by way of encouraging a positive match day experience is worth every penny of the largely negligible cost.

    Long may they continue.

And may I wish all fellow readers and contributors – and the many thousands who read but do not contribute – a very happy new year and best wishes for 2016.

And any stray players and staff who have wandered onto Positively Arsenal – a big thank you from all of us for all you have done for our marvellous club this past year.

I have a feeling this may be our year!

  18. Well written, Fins. Support the club and players, regardless of the results on the field of play.

As for transfers, it seems that the FA has new rules.

    As follows, per Sports Witness:-

The following explanation is from the excellent Daniel Geey football law website and details the first appeals hurdle.

 The value of the transfer fee being paid for the player is in the top 25% of all transfers to Premier League clubs in the previous 2 windows – 3 points
 The value of the transfer fee being paid for the player is between the 50th and 75th% of all transfers to Premier League clubs in the previous 2 windows – 2 points
 The wages being paid to the player by the applicant club is in the top 25% of the top 30 earners at the club – 3 points
 The wages being paid to the player by the applicant club are between the 50th and 75th% of all the top 30 earners at the club – 2 points
 The player’s current club is in a Top League and the player has played in 30% or more of the available domestic league minutes – 1 point
 The player’s current club has played in the group stages or onwards of the Champions League, Europa League or the Copa Libertadores within the last 12 months and the player has played in 30% or more of the available domestic league minutes – 1 point

Elneny, is unlikely to pick up points for his domestic football with FC Basel, because only the top 6 European leagues are counted. Due to a relatively low transfer fee, and assuming Elneny isn’t set to become one of Arsenal’s better paid players, the midfielder may struggle to pick up the 4 points required at initial appeal status.

Mr. Wenger, knows all the tricks of the trade, so patience is the watchword.

Now, a Happy New Year to one and all. Especially to Pedantic George!

  32. Happy New Year everyone!
It’s been an eventful year we left behind ranging from the heady highs of the back to back FA cup win, to the Community shield triumph, dismantling of ManU, Bayern and Citeh and the truly hilariously entertaining exit of the Odious one! (Sorry couldn’t help myself!)
On top of all that, the band of brothers (and sisters too) I’ve met here have made every jolt occasioned by a loss, disappointment or worse, of all things Arsenal that teeny weeny bit less bitter a pill to swallow. I’m grateful of the opportunity to partake of the camaraderie, thanks to the friendly, open door policy of this site and PG. Steww has made match days that more delightful to look forward to, as has Andrew the days after. Finsbury, Eduardo, Passenal, Alabama, ArsenalAndrew, DC, GP, Mills, Mel and every other contributor that makes this blog worth every bit of my time here, here’s to a more success strewn year on and off the pitch and in your life’s endeavors.

Thanks as always for the previews and reviews.

I’ve had to watch games up to 2 days late, and haven’t had time to comment, but I really appreciated the posts and comments around the time of the Soton game.

    Special.
