Welcome to the GunnersoreArse blog. Being blogged 918.74 kilometers (in a straight line) from the Emirates Stadium.
If you have not read them already, to understand the full context of this post, it may be good to read parts 1 and 2 here:

Life journeys can be funny things, what fate brings can alter the future forever. The same could be said of football, a little twist of fate will change the future outcome. Take Arsenal last season, fate intervened with injuries in the team which could be said, stopped us winning the league and Cup double. But we’ll never know for sure, because once a path is taken due to the intervention of fate, the alternative will be lost forever. It is one of the wonders of life, organic and continually changing….. you can never really know what lies…

Thanks for the reblog George…. in response to you from over there. They were dire, plastic bucket with a lid in the corner, shared by two, sometimes three of you. It wasn’t pleasant. At least I’ve now got to 1986 and can talk about some Gunners glory ha ha.
Thanks Steve-I
I really want to find out whats happening to TV5….. will he or won’t he?

To be honest NB, I’d prefer he stays for another year – but I’d like Aaron to become Captain, or Per.
Wenger swore he’d never sell a player to Manu again after the JvC incident, so I hope he sticks to that.
Poldi said he’s staying with us today, more good news.

Would be nice to know TV is staying although could understand if he wanted to go elsewhere to play. Who knows at this stage eh? So easily could find himself starting early on in season through injury to one of the other two and then keep his place and we’re suddenly wondering if a n other will stay or go. Hopefully we keep him as he is clearly at the top of the centrehalfonthebench tree and finding a better man would be no mean feat.

I do love the fact that we’ve played our first pre season game and before I know it I’ll be walking through the turnstile on 16th August! Under 4 weeks to go! Whoop

Interesting that Rambo was made captain yesterday, but too young for such responsibility on a regular basis. I’d rather he continue to develop his game first. Verm is definately the best to rotate with Per/Kos….. before one of them pick up an injury. We were extremely lucky with them last season.

The proof guy, he hasn’t had much luck recently.
A string of injuries toppled any momentum of getting back into the starting XI, then goes to the WC with Belgium and watches Vertongen playing CB with all the grace of the Exxon Valdez.
Tommy V hasn’t said one word of complaint, I respect that a lot, says a lot about his character.

Too young? Cesc was captain as a boy.
Fair point though, I’d rather let Ramsey concentrate on developing his game – his passing can be wayward at times and his his positional play when we don’t have the ball could be worked on, minor quibbles but working alongside pros like Arteta for another will benefit him immensely.

“Cesc was captain as a boy” how did that turn out for him and us ?.

I think TV is happy at the club…. the only problem is getting regular games. Hopefully with better fitness he may get that this season.

Putting my Wenger magic hat on for a moment,
Replacing Tommy V with an equivalent player is more difficult than many Arsenal supporters think. There simply are not enough quality CB’s out there.*
Wenger doesn’t go in for much rotation in the back line, so TV5 chances are going to be mostly limited to Cup runs.
*Don’t even mention Ashley Williams!

I can’t help him for all the decisions he has made in his life for the last 3 & 1/2 years George. They have been even worse than mine.

It turned out ok George/DC….. but still too soon! Perhaps more by luck than judgement. At the moment Per seems the most likely candidate…. but personally, I don’t see him as the leader on the pitch we need.* Grabs flak jacket*

Could we break new ground, innovate, and just not have a club captain ?
Our recent experiences of those appointed have not been good, and for poor Tommy the armband has been like a dead albatross around his Belgian neck. And as club captain he has barely played, his on field influence has therefore been very slight.
So why tempt fate ?

Would that work….. I always think a team needs someone on the oitch to rally the troops, shout, direct team mates, keep the tactics going according to the managers directions.

cesc did ok as captain george. at least better than gallas. his fault is that he abandoned the ship while gallas tried to sink it. on a long term basis, ramsey is the best candidate. or szczesny.

Well it may work sometimes NB but if you have good, experienced players who know their jobs, know what is expected of them tactically and in terms of giving their all why do you also need a club captain ?
As for relaying AWs instructions during a game I get the impression Arsene is perfectly shouty enough to get players to pay attention !
Anyway fear not – I am ahead of my time on this one

Cheezers is young still but he has that ‘crazy’ mentality that a captain needs…. I’d go with that.

Another classic post nb, we are in a different era now so I don’t think we should worry about the past issues we’ve had with Captains that paddy v started. Aaron has captained at international level and seems to take everything in his stride. However initially the big angry Per would keep the teams focus better maybe with Aaron vice. The real point is there are more and more captains in the side Kos,TR7,Art,Poldi,Jack,OG, even our crazy keeper. The experience in the squad is looking more and more like its a winning one they hate to be beat and the last time that happened they weren’t for a season and a half.

if tv5 leaves, i’ll love arsene to take his time this time around. maybe he should choose a captain on a short term for this season and the next maximum from arteta, mert or rosicky. allowing the younger and arsenal bred players to mature and ready to lead on a long term basis. my candidates would be ramsey, szczesny or wilshere.

I’m generally a traditionalist… Captain should be a CB, I know there are many these days who aren’t but I can’t get away from that viewpoint. A romantic memory of how captains used to be perhaps.

Well if Mikel spends most of the season on the bench Layks he sounds a perfect replacement if Tommy leaves for club captain

reports say we will announce the signing of khedira tommorow. i thought we were no more “on the case”. and another ridiculous report says schniederin has rejected us in favour of spuds. who in his right sences will reject us for a second rate club like spuds.

We seem to have our best season for a while with a club captain who barely played first team football

i know we may not be in for him, but the report suggested he rejected us. just as moureen said cesc chose chelsea ahead of us despite cesc saying something different.

maybe we should have two captains. one for the matchdays and the other for the club. i dont like seeing players transfering captain’s armband while the game is ongoing except when the captain is substituted.

These reports about Khedira signing tomorrow seem very tenuous, Layksite.
Big wage payers like City, Monaco and PSG may not be able to get him for more if FFP is for real.

i hope we are done with strikers this season. With giroud and sanogo, we are ok in the CF. i also want more play time for akpom this season. i liked his impact last pre-season, but arsenal were under pressure to win a trophy that we cant afford to give too many young players time to shine.
afobe is also available again. this may be his last opportunity to prove himself as he has only a year left in his contract with us.
