Would you have taken that after 12 games before a ball was kicked?

I would.

We are in this position simply because, despite a huge injury list, we have played the best football and, so far, have been the best team in the league.

When I used to ask the malcontents  “What do you expect?”  they would usually say “I just want us to compete”.

Well I  say we are doing that okay, wouldn’t you?

Anyway, on to the game.

That was as professional a performance as you could wish to see.  After the opening 5 minutes we took control of the game. They were pinned back and we looked like we would score.  That we were gifted the first goal is unimportant; it was a deserved lead.

From that moment on I was convinced we would go on to win the game.  Our goalkeeper and defence were imperious.  Each one of them were an 8 or 9 out of 10.   Giroud was most people’s MOTM.  Mine too

Now although I watched the game I still can’t tell you what position the rest of the team were supposed to be playing in.  If I was going to be critical, I would say Mikel was below his best in the first half.  However “below his best” does not mean he was bad, because “his best” is exceptional.  He still distributed the ball well and spread the play nicely.  This was not Arsenal at its free flowing best, but it was a team that looks like it could move up through the gears if its free flowing best IS required.

I believe we are in this to win it.

So we can pick through it in the comments section. Let’s face it, most of you know more about the game than me.

Happy days.

  1. Some were saying Arteta was below par yesterday, but he made five interceptions before being subbed.

    Awesome touch by Negredo.

  3. I still cannot describe ManShitty as devastating. This is a very strange performance from spurs. I hope I don’t see John the spud later at the gym. I won’t know what to say…

  4. Many an entertaining plundit called for Dawson to play for England after the Germany game. I laughed. I wasn’t alone*.

*Who can forget Dawson’s England debut?
First touch mis-control. Loses ball. Over stretches and fouls opponent trying to win back possession after god awful first touch. Injures himself whilst trying to foul said opponent. Out for some months thereafter. Priceless.

Between Adebayor and penalty expert Soldado the tinies have about £40-50M worth of striking, er, talent available.

They certainly know how to spend some money. Think I’d prefer to have the returning Afobe and Akpom in any squad ahead of those two!

  8. Minus three goal difference. Wow.

  9. Well that 6:0 was not only belly-splitting hilarious for a gooner but it should be a giant warning to all our expert bloggers and tweeters who harbor doubts about Wenger and give a nod to those mongs who want to spend and change managers at the drop of a hat.

Wenger warned about spending on so many players and the difficulties of integrating them into a team as AVB and the Spurs hierarchy decided to go for quantity in the xfer market rather than quality in an effort to replace Bale. The biggest gamble to my mind was spending £30 million on Lamela. Spuds boasting Lamela>Ozil was the biggest joke on twitter.

Throw your mind back to the earlier games of this season. AVB decided to focus on defensive solidity but as the season wore on and the points and goals became more difficult to attain, the pressure to become more aggressive was excruciating. Today he gambled with a more attacking team against one of the best counter-attacking teams in the League. Well the results are there for all to see.

I fear this could mark the real negative spiral AVB so famously predicted.

PS: Can anyone of us foresee Wenger playing anything less than a 4:2:3:1 against City at their place despite our technical superiority to the Spuds?

  10. Has Piers Morgan twitted anything biting about Spuds spending a hundred million and still being shit? He was one of the many pricks who were dying as they watched Spurs throw cash all over the place.

I’d be worried sick about the lack of goals if I were a Spuds supporter.

  11. I’d be worried about Dawson being in the team in November. AVB has had months to work that one out.

I’d be worried sick about the situation at CB, the lesser Vermaelan shunted out of position, the lack of a LB, an awful crest/badge and much much more if I were a Spuds supporter.

  14. i dont expect us to play anything other than our most rewarding formation. i see it as 4-1-1-3-1. either arteta or flamini in front of the back four and ramsey or wilshere or rosicky behind the three and giroud as our point man.
in any case, shitty will always play a defensive formation againt us. they wont use two striker.

  20. Results this weekend have generally been kind to The Arsenal. Fate has been kind to us so far combined with a run of consistent performances all calendar year. I can’t shake the feeling I have had since pre-season that this is our year.

Every time I make such a post I am met by thunderous silence on this blog. But I can’t quiet this gut feeling. Well I may be premature but hell that is how I feel.

  21. Another armchair manager on the on line gooner. This arrogant pompous comment keeps me on my toes…

“Even when wenger destabilised the team by the substitution of Theo for Carzorla, Rosickŷ and Nacho were quickly on to shore it up again, Rosicky giving them plenty to think about and Nacho doing what he does best, winning the ball and using it intelligently”.

It’s been a while. We need more time, a few more games. I am quietly confident but my irrational side doesn’t want to tempt fate…..it’s bollocks I know but I am a mere mortal…

It’s a reminder of the world beyond PA. Anyway, I cannot fathom their thinking.
Assuming they are genuine fans it seems to me they expect to experience no anxiety throughout the season. We must win with such huge margins and make them feel winning the league is a formality this soon. Or something like that.

  25. Shotta, me i always expect us to win the league and always disappointed when we don’t so for me its not silence at all, maybe i just take kit for granted that we are together on that… That aside, the table doesnt lie so we are on tract and will surely do, maintaining this level of consistency.

  26. Just got back from the game. Played in second gear and did a very professional job against an enthusiastic, energetic and technically capable Southampton side. They were not a bad side and Wanyama and Rodriguez might even get on to our second team bench of we had injuries.

All brilliant especially after an interlull, and with Marseille on Tuesday. One player for me deserves a special mention…Mozart. Really enjoying the difference he makes to games, slightly wistful about what might have been but only slightly because I think he has a few more Arsenal seasons yet. I would love to see him in our management team one day.

    Excellent Southampton story yesterday Steww.

…and all I can say about JC is that he is a hack football mercenary and as such his starting position is as a complete and utter fucking cunt. To not be a complete and utter fucking cunt he needs to try harder and if he does then maybe we will cut him some slack. Lets face it he keeps shocking company and I understand he is big pals with some really nasty Arsenal hating fuckers on the wireless.
